An awesome text message conversation from a few weeks ago:

Chris: Ok. this guy is typing and you can see it on the projector. writes 'batterys' and then goes whoops and changes it to 'battery's'. how does he have a job?
Me: I guess he's not going to make it to the top secret meetings.
Chris: Or 5th grade
Me: Poor guy. Hope you get freed soon.
Chris: Me two...to...too. uh oh too late. they got me.

----------------------------------------------------------------
And then a more recent google chat exchange:

Me: k, bye1
Me: 1=!
Chris: 1 actually equals 0!
Me: well done
Chris: heehee
Chris: thought you'd appreciate that

Chris comes to visit the West Coast

Chris just came out to visit a few weeks ago, and lucky me, I had a pen and paper handy for a bit of it, so here’s a big zingers update.

On the ride home from the airport after he’s just arrived:

Me: It’s good you have a sweatshirt, it’s been a really cold summer. Except for last week when it was crazy hot.
Chris: Go ahead. Tell me. How hot has it been? Low 80’s?
Me: No, probably upper 80’s, low 90’s.
Chris: It’s been mid-90’s every day in DC all summer.
Me: Well now it’s back to being cold here.
Chris: Tina, it’s 72 degrees outside.
Me: I know.
Chris: That’s not cold. That’s room temperature.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me: They’re nothing wrong with not eating meat.
Chris: We’re carnivores, Tina. Look at your teeth. Look at them!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris: People always try to come up with good things to do with a time machine. They’d go back and pay a bill they forgot or something. And I’m like, ‘No. That’s stupid.’ I’d go back and buy all the stocks after the Great Depression and then come back to the present and buy a small island. Like Australia. Actually, you know what I’d do? I’d buy cities.
Me: Like New York.
Chris: Yes. I’d buy every business in New York. And people could start new businesses, but then I’d buy them out and get all the profits. Just for s***s and giggles because I’d already have a house made out of billion dollar bills.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris: Man, your kids are going to hate my kids. They’ll be like, ‘Mom, Chris got a Porsche from his dad.’
Me: You’re going to name your first son Chris?
Chris: Hell yes. And the second will be Chris 2. And then Chris 3.
Me: Will the girls be Chris too?
Chris: No, I’ll think of something.
Me: But the first is Christopher Sterling Little.
Me: *Go to write this down for the blog*
Chris: That’s not funny! That’s serious. What are you naming your kids? Something weird.
Me: I haven’t decided yet. Maybe Aidan Roarke.
Chris: Roarke. That’s right. Christopher Sterling Little is weird, and your kid’s name is Roarke.

Waiting for our name to be called at the pizza parlor after a long day and an early lunch (read: we are REALLY hungry):

Chris: Pizza. My mouth. Let them meet.

(Note: for reference to this zinger, please see the zingers on prostitots from 11.21.2007. I was hoping to remind him about the earlier zinger concerning Razin' Kane’s.) Commenting on the hostesses who have yet to call us:

Chris: Come on, sluts.
Me: Prostitots.
Chris: They’re fully grown.
Me: Where are the prostitots?
Chris: *blank look*
Me: Where did you first come up with the term?
Chris: Bring Your Daughter to Work Day?

At the Del Mar horse races, we’re discussing what we’d name our horses:

Chris: I’d name my horse ‘Lazy Bastard.’ And he’d be a Clydesdale. And I’d have all the other horses shot in the legs with tranquilizers in the middle of the race, so Lazy Bastard would clomp, clomp, clomp his way to the win. And it would be a really long race, but Lazy Bastard would come out on top. And his odds would be 8000 to 1 and I’d get up and say ‘$50 please.’

So Chris and I were picking which horses we thought would win each race based solely on their names. In one race, there was a horse named Izshelegal, which we thought was a strange name. Therefore, neither of us chose this horse to win, place, or show. Then however, the horses came out, and the announcer made us realize that the name is pronounced ‘is she legal’ at which point we changed our minds and thought that was a great name. So Chris chose her to win. During the race however, the horse took an early lead only to lose it in the home stretch:

Chris: Do over.
Me: Obviously she didn’t realize how cool her name was.
Chris: Seriously. She didn’t get it either.

So I'm planning on buying a house...

And I decided to tell my brother about it as we were on the phone this evening. Hilarity ensues:

Me: Hey, did Mom tell you that I'm looking at buying a house?
Chris: What? No.
Me: Yeah, interest rates and housing prices are low, so since I'm staying in the area I thought now would be a good time.
Chris: Sounds good to me. So you're not looking at houses in your neighborhood?
Me: No, I am, I'd like to stay in the area.
Chris: I thought Mom had told me that houses are super expensive around there.
Me: There's a range. There's a house on my street that's on the market for 800, but some of the smaller houses are more in my price range. They're only around 600 square feet, so smaller than your apartment, but still.
Chris: 600 square feet?!?!?! That's not a house! That's not even a shed!
Me: Well it's twice as large as my apartment now, so it would seem like a palace to me.
Chris: You can't even call that a house! That's like me saying I have an eagle when all I have is Arvin [our peach-faced lovebird].
Me: Sterling, it's not like I need that much space.
Chris: Well that's good because you won't have any. I thought you would need a ton of space for your eight kids.
Me: I'm not staying in this house forever. God-willing I'll get married and have kids, but that's years down the road. When it becomes an issue I'd just sell this house and buy a bigger one.
Chris: A) That's not a house. I thought we had established this fact.
Me: Oh yeah, I forgot that you don't consider my future house to be a real house.
Chris: That's been the essential premise of this entire conversation. I'm going to think all day tomorrow about what we can call it. Right now, it's like: 'poodle is to dog as your place is to house.'
Me: Sterling, a poodle is a dog.
Chris: Not a real one! It's the pathetic dog that everyone laughs at! Gosh Tina, be logical.
Me: I am logical! Which one of us is the mathematician?
Chris: Apparently ME! I'm the only one who realizes that 600 square feet is not a house.

Funny by Email

My mom really set herself up for this one in my opinion. We're trying to set up a ski vacation, and since we're scattered about the country, we're doing all of this by email. So here is the back-and-forth:

From: Mom
To: Dad, Chris, Tina
Subject: Skiing vacation

Well, not much luck. If we want to go the week BEFORE Christmas, there's one available in the Rockies - in Idaho. If we wait until Christmas week, we can go to ME, MA, WA, PA, VA, TN, Sweden and Finland. No Colorado.

Chris' response comes the same day, just a few hours later...

From: Chris
To: Mom, Dad, Tina
Subject: RE: Skiing vacation

I vote for Sweden, no joke, let's book it now, we can video conference with the fam.

I take a few days to get back to the group...

From: Tina
To: Chris, Mom, Dad
Subject: RE: RE: Skiing vacation

I am in complete agreement with Chris on this one.

Love you all (Happy Father's Day, Daddy!)
Tina

And the quick follow-up from my brother...

From: Chris
To: Tina, Mom, Dad
Subject: RE: RE: RE: Skiing vacation

OK, now it's official padres, the family Little is Sweden bound. Get scheduling so we don't miss this fabulous opportunity.

Hope everyone is doing well,
Chris

Chris' Hashing Adventure

Anyone ever heard of "hashing"? I hadn't, but apparently it's an organized run followed by drinking. Anyway, Chris had his first (and last) hashing experience today, and in the recollection of the experience, I got quite a few awesome zingers. The entire conversation was pure gold, but I unfortunately wasn't able to record it. But here's what I managed to get down.

Chris: It was awful. It was the worst time I have ever had. Right in the middle I just wanted to cry. I was like, "You know what would make this better? A good long cry." Of course I probably couldn't cry because I didn't have any water left in my body.

----------------------------------------------------

Chris: And to make matters worse there were a ton of gnats suicide bombing my eyes.

----------------------------------------------------

Chris: And after it was all over, all I wanted to do was go home and wallow in my misery. But my friends were like, "We're going to go out tonight." And I'm like "No. We're not. We're exhausted." But they wanted to go, so we walked to Mike's, had a beer and walked back. And I'm just thinking, "I just paid four dollars for a beer. We had beer at the apartment! We could have been at home, had a beer, and NOT walked all the way to Mikes. I've been walking for hours already today."

----------------------------------------------------

Chris: And they [the hashing course/organizers] have these stupid rules, like frats. And one of them is, if you have new shoes, then you have to drink out of them. And so I was wearing my tennis shoes, which I've had for like a year, but really only use for tennis. So they're pretty clean. And they're asking me, "Are those new shoes?" And I say, "no, they're just clean. And you are not going to punish me for having clean shoes." If they wanted me to drink out of them, I would respond with, "A, No. B, Hell No. And C, I don't want my shoes wet with beer!"
